How Far Would You Travel For Love?

The course of true love ne'er did run smooth.

Idealized love, it seems, knows no distance too great. The voyage a hero / heroine makes over oceans, deserts, to the hidden tower is as elemental to a love story as predestination, jealous adversaries, and breathless vows.

Let's consider romantic comedies for a bit. The upcoming "Letters to Juliet"? OMG. What is more romantic than someone finally meeting HIM. Years after searching, living in the Italian countryside, riding a white horse, with the same je ne sais quoi he had way back when? Horses + Italian countryside + allusion to the Bard = rom-com gold. I'd watch it. I've restrained myself from wikipedia'ing the ending just so I can enjoy it more. Obviously it's not the originality of the ending that matters, but still. It's supposed to be a fantasy. People who physically travel the world to find their lost love don't really exist nowadays. In the age of facebook stalking and financial woe, do such improbably quests even happen anymore?

Now consider a jolly friend who is venturing to Asia just because. Perhaps it's a coincidence that he's planned a route that will allow him to meet a girl he's liked for several years. She lives half a world away. Now he's trying again, doing whatever he can to finally win her over. Will it work? Iunno. But I wish him the best. If it does, his "how did you guys end up together" story will be the swoony-ness.
